Hey Everyone!

During the holiday season it is easy to forget how lonely our soldiers away from home can be.
This year the American Red Cross is supporting a card campaign for wounded soldiers called Holiday for Heroes!!

From the front lines to the home front, the American Red Cross provides service members, their families and veterans with the care and assistance they need.
The Red Cross is partnering with Pitney Bowes this holiday season for the Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign. For the second year in a row, we’re collecting holiday cards to distribute to American service members, veterans and their families in the United States and around the world. Pitney Bowes is generously donating technology, resources and postage to make this holiday card program possible.

Our goal is to collect and distribute one million holiday cards to spread holiday cheer and facilitate thanks to these brave individuals and families.

Here is some of the info.

Please follow these guidelines when mailing a card to ensure that your card will quickly reach service members, veterans and their families. Every card received will first be screened for hazardous materials by Pitney Bowes and then reviewed by Red Cross volunteers working in one of 16 sorting stations around the country.
• All cards must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Cards sent after this date will be returned to sender.
• Please ensure that all cards are signed.
• Please use generic salutations such as “Dear Service Member.” Cards addressed to specific individuals can not be delivered through this program.
• Please send cards as opposed to long letters which delay a quick review process.
• Please do not include email or home addresses on the cards, as the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.
• Please do not include inserts of any kind, including photos, as these items will be removed during the reviewing process.
• Participants are encouraged to limit the number of cards they submit to 25 from any one person or 50 from any one class or group. If you are mailing a larger quantity, please bundle the cards and place them in large mailing envelopes. Each card does not need its own envelope.
• All cards received may be used in program publicity efforts, including appearing in broadcast, print or online mediums.

....people can remind you how far from home you are.

Tonight, working at the hotel, I checked in a guest from Bandera, Tx. For most people who know me, I lived in kerrville since 2003,until Jun 2008 when I moved to GA and my mom still teaches at Bandera Middle School. I welcomed him, even thanking him for reminding me of home. Turns out he Worked at the Y.O. resort hotel, which was accross the street from the bestwestern I worked at in Kerrville.

He got his keys and left, then a few mintues later came down and handed me some home made beef jerky.

Needless to say I was touched, and gave him a big hug, but once he left, I started to cry.

I MISS home, not in the childish way (which I do), but I miss TEXAS. I miss people who would hand you a piece of food, or get you drink just because. I miss people saying please/thank you/you're welcome. I miss feeling that I belonged some where.

I love my husband dearly, but I hate being here. We both want to come home so bad it has at times caused a massive strain on our marriage. I want to go home. And right now, March 2009 seems a million years away.

...and completely exhausted. I have been up since 10pm lastnight, I could not for the life of me fall asleep when I got off work at 7am and I had to be back here at 3pm, so it is now, 8pm and I am hitting the weepy, emotional stage of exhausted. I literally have a tiny amount of laundry to do and as far as I a concerned it could be the size of everest. I just wanna crawl under my desk and sleep, but I doubt my gm would be all down wit dat.

However, I did get some moderately lame news that I won't be able to get into Disney this trip to orlando. Patrick's go to guy was unable to get us the comp tickets so we are jsut doing HHN, which isn't bad and is the main reason we are going any how.

So in lieu of Disney we are going to the HUGE assed theatre in Citywalk and going to watch the Haunting of Molly Hartley. A movie I surprisingly WANT to see, and I am very excited about.

Any how thats all I have for now. Meh.

I am so excited, I am going to HHN 18, and I have never been and NOW my uberwonderful bestest friend in the whole wide world MIGHT be able to get us into Disney (well the magic kingdom but STILL!) Now I know it is the day after, but it took me a while to sit and really reflect on the question asked yesterday.

I remember how I felt THAT day. I remember in the begining thinking what we all did. Some plane had some sort of horrible malfunction and lost control into the building. Then the feeling of dread as I heard a second plane had hit. I remember wanting so badly to go home and find my mom and brother. I also remember by bitch of a boss at Fugro telling me there was no reason to leave, it was in New York, not Houston. I remember stairing at her, thinking how she could come to that conculsion. If they hit New York, our financial center, then by god Houston HAD to be next. It had NASA, the Ports. For the first time I hated another human being utterly. In that moment I just wanted to slap her, and walk out. But I didn't. Instead I called my mom, sobbing, terrified. I wanted to get my baby brother and go home.

I remember the drive, at 3pm they let us leave the building. I remember listening to the radio in some sort of shock. I felt wooden as I drove, like a statue, just empty and hollow. And then this overwhelming urge to get to my father's grave. He had died 2 years before, and I was suddnely horrified at the thought of the world ending and no one was with him, in East Texas. He would be all alone and he wouldn't know how much we loved him or cared for him.

And now it is seven years later, and when I see those towers in my mind, I still have this urge to run and hide like a child.

I am still angry at people who perpetuate a close minded, brainwashed, fanatical view of ANY religion, be it Islam, Christianty...a jelly donut. If you beleive you are chosen by GOD to judge ANYONE on this earth, you have a serious problem.

I am still fearful, I am afraid everything I love can me taken from me in an instant, a simple blink of an eye and everything I love is gone. I still have nightmares of waking up and being alone.

I am not the same girl I was before. I am more cynical, withdrawn and angry. I trust people even less then I did before (which wasn't much), and I am not as likely to reach out like I once did.

On the other hand, I am much more protective of my country. I am damn proud of my soldiers. I am less open minded to just anyone walking across my borders, but I am damn sure going to protect the ones already here. I guess I am becoming more and more like John Wayne as time rolls by. If you want to know what I mean, find the cd "America, Why I Love Her" by the Duke, kinda says alot we don't say anymore about a country who for all it's faults, is still free and is still home.
